What an amazing year we’ve had so far! It’s been so great to see everyone at our programs. We’ve had some amazing events already and this month will be no exception.
The House Points are adding up from all the program attendance. In first place, Gryffindor with 1419 points. Second place is Ravenclaw with 1203 points. Hufflepuff is in third place with 821 points, and Slytherin is in fourth place with 644 points. Trust me when I say, it is not over yet – not by a long shot. Last year, Ravenclaw led the majority of the way until the very end when Hufflepuff came back to win the House Cup.
Movie Scene Charades for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on November 3rd was so much fun! If you were not able to make it, plan on being their December 1st for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Charades at 2:30 PM.
Thursday, November 8th is our Millhopper Greenhouse Classroom at 4:30 PM. We will learn how to prep lavender to dry so that we can make Lavender Sachets in December. You can keep it for yourself or gift it to someone special this holiday season. We will also begin planting veggies in preparation of a FOODIEspace program in the future. With a little luck and help from our budding herbologists, we will be able to grow our own Salad!
We have visitors coming this month. First up, UF’s Astro Outreach will be here on November 10th with the Portable Planetarium for an Astronomy Class. This program does require registration and participants are reminded that you must be here before the program begins or you will not be allowed entry. There are two program offerings – the first is at 2:30 PM and the second one begins at 3:15 PM.
November 14th is our first Defense Against the Dark Arts program of the Year. Capoeira Academy of Gainesville will be here teaching some AMAZING self-defense strategies, but trust me when I tell you that Capoeira is so much more than that! Program begins at 4:30 PM.
The Ordinary Wizarding Level examinations are at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 17th. The questions for this month’s book trivia come from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Ask at the reference desk if you need a copy of the book.
Don’t miss out on Dumbledore’s Army this month as we will be making Monster Book of Monster Post-It Note Holders. Just don’t forget to stroke the spine when you need a post-it note! Program meets on Monday, November 19th at 4:30 PM
We are showing the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie on Sunday, November 25th at 1:30 PM. Celebrate the successful completion of the OWLs by watching the movie with friends.
Our final program of the month, MSWW: Owlery is one of my favorites. We will have visitors from Sunrise Wildlife Rehabilitation here with actual Owls! Get up close and personal while learning about these amazing animals. If you are unable to secure a registration-required spot for the program, the organization will be staying afterwards to allow for walk-ins. The program begins at 4:30 PM.
Registered participants of MSWW can enter a House Points Raffle at every MSWW program. The winner will receive 25 House points. The drawing will take place within the last 10 minutes of the program, and you must be present to win.
Also, if you haven’t already signed up for the exclusive Google Classroom, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to get the class code or another invite. We will post the most up-to-date information about programs here, but we also post various activities that you can do for even more House Points. Two of our students earned mega House points by creating this spell for the Halloween season:
We are still accepting registrations for Slytherin House. Interested participants can stop by any MSWW program for more information or email email@example.com with questions.
