Children love hearing stories. They also love sharing those stories. Retelling a story requires children to hone their listening skills as they integrate and reconstruct what they’ve heard. It builds greater comprehension, helps develop an understanding of story structure, and promotes expressive vocabulary.
Encourage your child to engage in active play with stuffed animals, dolls, and other toys to retell a story they’ve recently heard. It aids in building their memory and inspires them to use their imaginations and have fun as they learn while playing.
Stone Soup is a European folk story that promotes sharing and serves as a reminder that when we all pitch in, all can benefit. Our library has many versions of this classic tale for check-out here. You may want to check out some of the other versions and reenact the story at home with your child.
I hope you enjoy this retelling of Stone Soup with plushies.
