International Brain Awarenss Week was founded in 1995 by the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives. It runs from March 15th to March 21st this year and continues to be coordinated by the Dana Foundation. Brain Awareness Week is the global campaign to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science. Each March the Dana Foundation and partners work with communities all over the world to share the wonders of the brain and the impact brain science has on our everyday lives. Take a look at the information gathered below to start learning about the many functions - and dysfunctions - of the brain!

  • Learn about nerve cells, neurons, axon terminals and all the other interesting pieces that make up the brain.

Activity

For this activity, either download and print these flashcards or read them out-loud to each other. The orange side will give you the "Truth or Myth" statement and the blue side will tell you the answer. As you take turns going through them, be sure to keep track of points so you can see who gets more right at the end! Make a game out of it - winner gets to pick a movie to watch!
