A "Rick Riordan presents" novel that will surely remind readers of The Lightning Thief. Seventh grader Nizhoni Begay has been noticing her ability to see monsters lately. When one she spots turns out to be her father's new boss, Nizhoni tries to warn her father, but he doesn't listen. Then, her father disappears and the only message he left says to "Run!" Nizhoni, with the help of her best friend, risks it all to find her brother and run. To find their father, Nizhoni, Davery, and Mac must have the help of the Diné Holy People who send them on a quest full of trials they'll have to beat to save her family and the world.

This story is full of Navajo Nation traditional stories about gods and heroes that have been passed down for generations with some modern twists. Rebecca Roanhorse has written a story that is fast-paced, funny, and fabulous that blends adventure and real-life issues, like trying to survive middle school. Excellent for fans of middle-grade fantasy, Rick Riordan, and lovers of hero stories.
