News from City Hall

COVID-19 has really made an impact on the world including Waldo.  We have had to postpone meetings, get togethers, sports activities, playgrounds are closed down, no rentals of municipal buildings for parties and such, schools – virtual at home – I think we have a new respect for teachers & principals now after homeschooling – so shout out to all the wonderful teachers and principals out there- we Love and Appreciate YOU!!! THANK YOU for what you do daily!!!!

The Food Give- A-Ways

Monday – Friday – 11:30am – 12:00noon  School lunch/breakfast for ages 0-18yrs of age – bus out in front of Waldo City Square.

Tuesday’s starting between 11a and12:oonoon (depends on pickup what items have to be put out) until gone  – City residents and workers go to Gainesville to pick up the food to distribute in the old school lunch room – this is a walk thru where you can choose what you will use – first come first serve.

WEDNESDAY’S FOOD GIVE AWAYS IS OVERNO MORE DRIVE THROUGH ON WEDNESDAYS. They were done with the help of United Way, Bread of the Mighty, The Brothers in Action Firefighter group and the Gainesville Elks Lodge #990.  We are no longer doing the weekly food give a ways – but we are going to see if we can do something monthly with these groups – sign up for Code Red on the City of Waldo Web site so you will know what is going on in the City – this is where we will report dates and times on this and other events in the City of Waldo.

If you get a chance to thank the Elks Lodge 990  or the Brothers in Action Firefighters that would be great!!

Food give away at Waldo City Square

Thursday –  6:00pm The new Dinner Church located at the  Old Waldo Library on Cole Street is now serving free dinners to go – you can only pick up a dinner for yourself unless other arrangements are made with them – if you need dinner delivered you can contact them.  Izzie Williams 352-224-8240 or Eugene Green 352-339-0340

The next Waldo City Council Meeting  is planned for June 9, 7:00pm this will be held in the Waldo Square Auditorium to be able to follow the social distancing rules, temperatures will be checked before entry.

There will be NO  summer camp this year at the Waldo Community Center. We are unsure when playgrounds will be open again.  We are still planning on the July 4th parade and event unless the gatherings are still cancelled in July.  The Library has cancelled their summer events and at this time is limited to visitors. This leaves children with nothing to do to keep busy which is a bummer!!! We need to keep a watch out to make sure the kids are OK and not getting into any trouble.

Knights Security patrols Waldo along with ASO if you have a security issue please or see something suspicious please call them at 904-601-1885 if emergency call 911 Alachua County Sheriff’s office non- emergency number is 352-955-1818.

You can pay your utility bill on line and sign up for Code Red on the City of Waldo website www.waldo-fl.com  for Code Red – click on the Code Red button top right of page – you can login as visitor – fill in the form.  If it does not read your address it will take you to a map page where you drag the blue tear drop to your address area.   To pay on -line click on Make a Payment – if doing from phone turn your phone sideways to see the full screen.  There is a service 3.5% service fee for this service.
