It's time for Free Comic Book Day! Each year on the first Saturday of May, the comics industry comes together to encourage curious, first-time comic book readers and seasoned comic book fans by providing free comics at local comic shops. Founded on the belief that there is a comic book for everyone to love, the annual event offers a huge selection of free titles designed to appeal to a broad range of age levels and tastes.

Free Comic Book Day is also celebrated at libraries, and free comics have been provided at some library branches. Don't forget that you can also check out comic books and graphic novels with your library card, and Alachua County residents have access to a large selection of downloadable comics through hoopla.

Patrons can stop by the following branches on May 6 during business hours to pick out one free comic per person while supplies last:

Saturday, May 6, 2 p.m. at High Springs Branch
Join us for Free Comic Book Day! We will watch a film, make buttons, draw comics, and eat snacks. Bring the whole family for a day of superheroics and fun.

Recycled Comic Book Crafts
Saturday, May 6, 2 p.m. at Micanopy Branch
Celebrate Free Comic Book Day by recycling old-worn comics into exciting new crafts! Learn how to use parts of these comics to create stickers, buttons, bookmarks, and much more!
