Legos

January 28 is International LEGO Day! The LEGO Group was founded by Godtfred Kirk Christiansen in the 1930s, but the first plastic LEGO bricks weren't patented until January 28, 1958. The name “LEGO” comes from the Danish words “leg” and “godt”, meaning “play well”. The LEGO Group and LEGOs have a long and interesting history

LEGOs aren't just for kids. There are LEGO® Certified Professionals (LCP) made up of adult LEGO entrepreneurs who have turned their passion for the LEGO bricks and system into a profession.

Fun LEGO Facts
  • There are around 60 billion LEGO bricks produced each year.
  • LEGO is the largest toy company in the world.
  • There are around 4 billion LEGO mini-figures in the world – over half of the world’s population.
  • While LEGO is slowly adding more diversity into their mini-figures, around 70-80% of the mini-figures are male.
  • The current largest LEGO set is the LEGO Art World Map -- with over 11,000 pieces included.
