Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon

In 1994, a new game was born. It was the bringing together of the concept that everyone in the world is six or fewer acquaintances away from one another and a statement Kevin Bacon once said in jest that he had worked with everyone in Hollywood or someone who worked with them. The game was called Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, and it went viral before going viral was a thing. I think it’s time to bring it back. Click on the titles or movie posters below to bring you to the catalog, where you can place on hold to pick up or find out if the title is currently available to check out at the closest branch to you.

Here’s how you play. Since I am distantly related to the actor, Robert Armstrong, whose Bacon number is 3,  I'll start with him. I am connected to Kevin Bacon by 4 degrees, aka my Bacon number. The chain would go as follows:

I am related to Robert Armstrong (one degree), who played in the original King Kong with Fay Wray (two degrees). Fay Wray was in Queen Bee with Betsy Palmer (three degrees), who was in Friday the 13th with Kevin Bacon (four degrees).

Let’s play another. Timothée Chalamet, with a Bacon number of 2, was in Lady Bird with Laurie Metcalf, who was in JFK with Kevin Bacon.

You can go to https://oracleofbacon.org/ to plug in the actor’s name of choice or you can use your extensive knowledge of film to do the work yourself. Either way, you may come up with a few titles to watch that you may not have seen in a while or ones you may not have heard of.
