The Alachua County Library District is excited to announce that we are beginning construction of a new library branch to replace the existing branch in the City of Hawthorne. Work has already begun on removing the old parking lot and we expect construction will continue for several months. We anticipate opening the new branch to the public in early 2026.
The new Hawthorne Branch will be much more spacious at 10,078 square feet. Which will give more room for book stacks, computers, and comfortable seating. The new building will allow the Library District to add improvements that give the Hawthorne community more ways to utilize their library. Plans to enhance the Hawthorne Branch include adding a Snuggle Up Center, Teen Space, Quite Reading Room, study rooms, and a MakerSpace area.
During construction, the existing library building will remain open. The new library building will be built adjacent to the current building on the property.
“While we love our current building, we are beyond excited about the construction of the new library,” said Hawthorne Branch manager Cameron Burris. “It will offer so much more to the Hawthorne community and allow us to create new opportunities to participate, connect, and discover.”
