Tax season is underway. Are you ready for the changes the 2018 tax year brings? Do you need help filing your taxes? The library is here to help.
For the 2018 tax year the new tax reform law takes place so there will be changes in the way you file your taxes. Forms 1040A and 1040EZ have been eliminated, and everyone will use a redesigned 1040 form. Instructions and forms are available at your nearest library or they can be downloaded from www.irs.gov.
Taxpayers can visit IRS.Gov/GetReady for more tips on preparing to file their 2018 tax return. You may want to try the IRS program Free File, a fast, safe, and free way to do your federal tax return online.
The IRS strongly encourages people to file their tax returns electronically for faster refunds. Despite the government shutdown, the Internal Revenue Service has confirmed that it will process tax returns beginning January 28, 2019 and provide refunds to taxpayers as scheduled.
The filing deadline to submit 2018 tax returns is Monday, April 15, 2019. If you find you are not able to meet this deadline, you will need to submit a Form 4868 Application for Automatic Extension to file.
Florida addresses on where to file will let you know where to send your return.
If you need help filing your 2018 Federal Income Tax, volunteers from AARP Foundation and United Way VITA will give you a hand. Several libraries and other community locations will host free tax assistance through these two organizations. Participants will need to have a valid ID, Social Security Card, and any tax forms necessary to complete their return.
