Tax season is here and the library and our partner organizations are here to help you file your 2023 taxes. Taxpayers can begin filing 2023 tax returns in early 2024.

The deadline to file your 2023 Tax Return is April 15, 2024.

Tax Assistance at the Library

AARP Tax-Aide Alachua County is providing free tax preparation services starting on Jan. 29, 2024. Tax aide will be available through April 15, 2024. IRS-Certified volunteers provide free income tax preparation for people with low and moderate income.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide 2024 - Appointments Recommended

All sites are by appointment, walk-ins will be accepted as time permits. One tax return per one-hour appointment. Schedule an appointment online or visit the site in-person ONLY during Tax-Aide hours.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide 2024 - Walk-ins Only (Saturdays)

Walk-in assistance will be provided on Saturdays at the following locations on the specified dates. All walk-in service is first-come, first-served. All walk-ins must arrive no later than one-hour before closing and will be seen only as time permits.

United Way VITA - Appointments Recommended

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers FREE tax help to taxpayers who need assistance. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified taxpayers. 

Contact 211 for an appointment to have an IRS-certified volunteer prepare and file your taxes at one of our VITA sites. Simply dial 2-1-1 or (352) 332-4636 to make an appointment.

Alachua Branch (14913 NW 140 St., Alachua):
Mondays: Feb. 12, 26, March 11, 25 (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
Saturdays: Feb. 24, March 9, 16, 23, 30, and April 6 (11 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Cone Park Branch (2801 E University Ave.):
Fridays: Feb. 2, 16, March 1, 15, 29 (11 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

Qualified taxpayers can include, but are not limited to:

  • Low- to moderate-income households
  • Individuals with disabilities
  • Individuals with limited English
  • Individuals living in the surrounding rural communities

The library will have tax forms and instruction booklets available for pick-up beginning in late January or early February. Supplies are limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call your preferred library location to ensure forms are available.

Are instructions available?

Instructions for the 1040 Form are available while supplies last. These instructions are also available in Spanish.

How do I get additional forms or instructions?

Additional tax forms and instructions are available on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website. Most forms can be printed from this website.
