Starting May 19. you can buy (or checkout from your local library using our curbside service) the newest installment of The Hunger Games series, Suzanne Collins' The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.  In this prequel novel, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow prepares to mentor the female tribute from District 12 in the tenth Hunger Games, with the fate of his family hanging on the slim chance that he can help her win the Games.

While you're waiting to read the new book, it's a good time to reread the original trilogy, or to visit the world of Panem for the first time.  Alachua County Library District carries all three original novels in regular print, ebook, audio and downloadable audio.  We also carry all four films from the hit series, available on DVD.

It all begins with The Hunger Games.  In a future North America, where the rulers of Panem maintain control through an annual televised survival competition pitting young people from each of the twelve districts against one another, sixteen-year-old Katniss's skills are put to the test when she voluntarily takes her younger sister's place. Where the poor battle to the death for the amusement of the rich, impressive world-building, breathtaking action and impossible moral conflicts launch one of the most popular franchises of the decade. The Hunger Games is a compelling read that fits twenty genres into one book.  From there you can read/watch its sequels, all available in our library catalogue.
