Interlibrary Loans (ILLs)

If our library doesn't own it, we'll try to find it!

ILLiad service [Alachua County residents only]

ILLiad is an online request service that processes InterLibrary Loans (ILLs)--requests for items from library systems in other counties and/or states. You only need to register once, and you may check your requests online at any time.

What ILL is and how to use it

If our library doesn't own what you're looking for you can request it from other libraries throughout Florida and the United States. Requests may include:

  • Physical books
  • Microfilm
  • Photocopies of articles or book chapters

The library does not request items that are: already owned by the Alachua County Library District, eBooks, books published in the last 6 months, complete issues of magazines, audiovisual materials (including movies and CDs), or dissertations and master theses.

Have an ACLD library card in good standing* and live in Alachua County? Request ILL services by:

ACLD does not charge for ILL service, but other libraries might charge processing fees or fines on overdue ILLs.
ILLs are more valuable than most ACLD materials and overdue ILLs will immediately block your account.
Renewals must be requested at least 3 business days before the due date, and ILLs should be returned at a check-in desk.
Total ILL requests cannot exceed 15.

Please check the Interlibrary Loan section of Ask Us! for more information.

Renewing an InterLibrary Loan

Once in your ILL account look to the menu on the left. Click on "Checked out items" under the heading "View".

That will bring up all the items that are checked out to you. There is a transaction number displayed on the left side of the record for each item checked out.

Click on the transaction number of the book you want to renew. That record then opens up and if a renewal is possible for that item, you will see, in red, the words "renew request" just above the blue title bar that reads "transaction information".

Click the "renew request" button.

It's important to be aware that the item has not yet been renewed. The new due date can only be given by the lending library. Renewals will not be processed if your library card has a bill.

Once this step is finished, it is a matter of waiting to hear from the InterLibrary Loan staff to be given the new due date if the book is renewed.

If you don't receive a new due date by the time the due date on the book has arrived, then assume it wasn't renewed and return the book.

***Remember, you can always request the book again.***
