Reading aloud to your child

When's the best time to start reading to your child?

As early as possible! Babies love the closeness and the sound of your voice. You are also demonstrating to your child that reading is an essential part of life. Check out some of our favorite books to share with your baby.

Sensory Toys for Checkout

Sensory play is an important component of childhood development. As an outgrowth of the library’s Sensory Storytime programs, the library has added sensory toys to the circulating collection.

These items are available for Holds and Check Out by patrons. The toys check out for 14 days and there is a limit of one sensory toy per patron at a time. All sensory toys are kept at Headquarters and patrons are encouraged to return them to the Headquarters Branch. Each item has an assigned “title” and a call number of “sensory toys.” We offer 37 different sensory toy sets to choose from.

The toys are contained in red canvas bags with their title on a tag. Each bag contains a laminated sheet with information about each toy. Some of the toys are appropriate for babies and others are only recommended for children older than 3 years old. Patrons may search the library catalog for them using the keywords “sensory toys.”
